Sexiest male acts in GH….who’s your pick?

May 24, 2009

Sex sells and we all know that. It sells even more when you are adored by female fans and don’t have to try too hard to get them screaming sexy! Haven’t you ever wondered though; which artistes have got the female masses under wraps; and is sure to get them wide eyed and bodies tingling any day? Besides, what goes into being considered a sex symbol?

To most ladies I spoke to, the criteria is really yet to be defined when it comes to determining which GH act gets them going. There’s always existed a train of thought that, being a star is the automatic qualification to being a ladies man but in recent times it looks as if the womenfolk are upping the scale on their pick of the sexiest male celebrities.

Nowadays before female fans buy into a male artiste as sexy, it is their prerequisite that he must be cute [a very tricky one!], muscular [Notwistanding that he may just be slim], his fashion sense and more practically, how good he is as an artiste.

Well, now that the criterion has been laid down, who are those lucky male acts in the industry who top the list in the exclusive club of the absolutely gorgeous sex symbols for our ladies? Out of the over 200 ladies sampled, this is how the list goes;

TINNY:
They nicknamed him, “sexy Tinny,” and with good reason too. It may be his obvious good looks – topped up by his customary short dreads – or his chic wardrobe, but either ways, it seems GH girls can’t get enough of him. For most it has to do with his looks and what they refer to as his confidence and ‘swag.’ Of course the fact that he makes good music is definitely an added attraction.

ASEM:
He calls himself the ‘manager’ and ‘boss player’ and has been known to go on and on about girls of different shapes and sizes; and even though the young ‘prince of hip-hop’ may have found himself in a bit of trouble for using suggestive lines in his music, it looks like the women folk are not in the least bothered by it. Matter of fact, as it turns out, his daring knack for the controversial, is a plus for his sex appeal. His boyish looks and ‘sweet lyrics’ plus some ‘swag’ to boost, are enough reason to love him. One lady put it ever so candidly-“he’s so damn cute!”- His numerous female admirers would definitely agree.

OKEAME KWAME:
GH’s ‘rap doctor’ may have quit bachelorhood quite recently but it sure hasn’t stopped his female admirers from sticking to their favourite pastime. Okyeame Kwame is sleek and has a chic though matured sense of style that apparently goes down well with the womenfolk. In the past he’s been linked with the beautiful actress Nana Ama McBrown and seems to be a favourite of older female fans though he does have quite a number of younger ones feeling him as well, a fact his beautiful bride Annika, would definitely attest to.

SAMINI:
He once stated in an interview that he had many ladies after him, and it looks as if he might have been honest after all. The dreadlocked baritone singer has got the ladies tingling to his deep voice and rugged features, it seems. Those who’ve been in closer contact with him, say he’s got his way with the women and has a bit of a sweet tongue to boost as well. The self professed African dancehall king might just be a king in the hearts of his many female admirers as well.

KWAKU T:
There’s little doubt in most female minds that GH’s BBA 2 representative is a stunner. He’s also got the cherished boyish good looks plus a definite swag in his step that’s been evident since his days in GIS. His accent may cause a few problems for him with some ladies but for the most part they confess to being totally rattled by him.

ABORTION (4X4):
His crew may have been on the quiet until recently but 4X4’s raga man is definitely still very much on most ladies’ list of GH’s sexiest acts. They say his smile is dynamite, and so is his sharp looks and chic clothing. His artistic abilities aside, the young man has long been considered by many a female, as an absolutely sweet, eye candy!

RICHIE:
Last year’s producer of the year is not only cooking up chart topping hits but looks, [unconsciously, I suspect] to be aiding his numerous female admirers in cooking up wild sexual fantasies about him in their minds. According to most ladies, it is his voice that does the trick and perhaps the fact that he comes across as a squeaky clean hot boy!

O.K folks so there you have, the list GH’s hottest sex symbols as determined by the 200 women I sampled……who’s your pick?

Song writer cautions musicians – Ricky Anokye

May 19, 2009

Artistes like A Plus have been warne

One of Ghana’s seasoned music producers and song writer, Ricky Anokye has called on Ghanaian musicians to bury their differences, come together and work as a team to move the industry forward.

He said the attitude of most Ghanaian musicians has blocked the forward movement of the industry and also scared investors.

He noted that the music industry in Ghana is a potential revenue earner which when well managed, could create more job opportunities for the youth.

Speaking to BEATWAVES, Ricky Anokye reiterated that the Ghanaian music industry has the potential of earning millions of dollars for the country’s foreign reserves, but there are no good structures put in place for effective administration, promotion and distribution.

He indicated that countries like South Africa, Nigeria among others are making huge economic gains through music and Ghana could learn some lessons from them.

He stated that Ghana’s music industry has failed to achieve success because the players are not focused and as well lack directions as far as music is concerned, adding that in-fighting among the musicians and a section of the stakeholders is driving investors away from investing in the music industry.

He pointed out that as an artiste, what he could readily do is to use his youthful energy coupled with his iconic status to drum home unity among the industry players.
He said many young Ghanaian musicians have lost faith in the industry and would readily leave the shores of Ghana at the least opportunity.

On the issue of piracy, Ricky Anokye said the music industry in Ghana for the past decade has recorded low patronage of musical albums due to the increase in piracy which Ghanaian musicians have so far failed to find a solution to.

Piracy of recorded musical works of Ghanaian artistes cost millions of cedis in lost revenue and profits. The losses represent only music piracy on the Ghanaian economy as a whole, adding that piracy in the Ghanaian music industry cost the music industry over GH¢2 million between 2000 and 2006.

He noted that Ghana currently has a new copyright law which was passed by Parliament in 2005, but it is not being implemented because there is no Legislative Instrument (LI) to show the modalities through which the law can be implemented.

He said if piracy is not checked, the country would continue to lose billions of cedis through tax evasion and royalties to musicians.

The situation, he noted, currently calls for the enforcement of the new Copyright Act 690 to bring fresh hope to the Ghanaian music industry as the stakeholders look at the challenge of enforcing the law.

He called on the stakeholders in the music industry to petition the Attorney General’s office to come out with laws that would empower the National Communication Authority (NCA) and Ghana Tourist Board (GTB) to insist that radio stations and other music users pay royalties to the musicians.

Goodies refuse visitors

Convicted Chief Executive Officer of Goodies Music Production and former Executive Producer for popular hip life group VIP, Isaac Aidoo has sent a strong signal to all his friends, family and loved ones that he does not need anybody to visit him in his present state at the Nsawam medium prisons (at least not for now) – apart from his wife Pat.

Goodies made a silent statement last Saturday, May 16, when he refused to see Peace FM’s Entertainment Review crew when they paid him a visit to see how he was coping.

Prior to the visit, the crew spoke to the wife of Goodies, who assured them that they can visit him. She said because her husband has been convicted he is entitled to only one visit a week, which allows only a 10-minute chat, but on any visit apart from that, the visitor will only be allowed to see the prisoner for a few minutes without talking to him or her.

Mrs. Patricia Aidoo showed the crew the type of food items they should buy for her husband. Upon reaching the Nsawam Prisons at 7.20am Saturday morning, Entertainment Review host, Kwasi Aboagye and producer went through the formalities and waited till a few minutes after 8.00am when the gate was opened for visitors.

After inspection at the gate, Chief Officer Yirenkyi, who was in charge of inspecting the male visitors said Goodies had a visitor (his wife) during the week so they can only be allowed to see him behind the metal bars at the entrance to the prison yard.

The Officer alerted Goodies about the crew’s visit but to the surprise of the prison officers, fellow prisoners and the Peace FM crew, Goodies refused to show up. The officer then sent another prisoner to tell Goodies that he (the officer) is ordering him to come but he refused to obey the order.

Eventually, the Peace FM crew had to return with the bag of rice, cans of tin fish, tin tomatoes and other items because Goodies was not ready to see them much less receive their presents.

A source close to Madam Pat, wife of Goodies disclosed to Weekly Fylla that life has not been easy for the family after their bread winner was arrested, and there is no support from anywhere.

In a telephone interview with Patricia to check how she is doing with their children, she said she cannot speak to any media man without the permission of her husband though she didn’t hide the fact that things are not going too well for her and their three kids, one twin (Prince and Princess) four years old and two year old boy.

April 24, 2009

https://i0.wp.com/edition.ghanamusic.com/images/stories/article/praye_4_300x188.jpgThey’ve transcended their vigilant roots and have become a nation phenomenon and if you are wondering who and what am talking about, it’s the ever-crazy and ever-confident, Praye.

They get rave reviews, have good sales worldwide, are beneficiaries of Ghana music Awards and other music awards and these guys always deliver unforgettable performances on every show they are on.

The success of their latest hit – “Angelina” has kept the group touring around the African continent for some time now and landing big concerts in Ghana and Africa.  Watch Angelina by Praye.

They have also been nominated in the “The Artiste of the Year”, “Most Popular Song of the Year” (Angelina), “Hiplife / Hiphop Artiste(s) of the Year” and “Afro Pop Song of the Year” categories at the 2009 Ghana Music Awards.

Praye has always impressed and dazzled African fans with the mic skills and their footwork which is evident in the “Angelina”  video and their live performances.

Praye’s first album, “Mfitiatse” with hit track ‘Shorty’ was a breakthrough, vaulting them to a level of success unparalleled by any other young hiplife group.

Their lyrics are always fitted with loose rhymes, buoyant anthemic funk and a jovial live spirit.

But if “Da Bomb” was being crowned their best, then “Roll Koll 2008”, their third will conquer them to the throne to become Kings of the Ghanaian music industry.  Some of their songs are “Medo Wo”, “Wodin (Your name)”, “Courage Brother”, “Wo Nkoa”, “Kooko Ase Krakye”, “Odo”, “Somebody Dey Carry My Wife”, etc. The album is released on Goals Multimedia Record label owned by Prince Tagoe of Black Stars.

It is an album that further intensifies their passion for making music together, for connecting with their audience through the most fundamental ways: making people have a good time. It’s a belief that has stimulated the group since they became Praye three days to the Greater Accra Nescafe African Revelation contest in Ghana. They sailed through and made it to the final three of the Greater Accra edition. They became the first winners of the Nescafe African Revelation (Ghana) on 16th September, 2004 and later went onto to win the African edition. Within a year they won an award as the Best Group in West Africa at KORA Awards.

In an interview with Ghana Music.com some years back, Praye Honeho (Eugene) explained why they choose the name Praye. “Well, we choose the name Praye because it means a broom and since a broom is a tool for sweeping, we are also here to sweep the social vices through our music”, he said.

Praye is made up of Eugene Baah aka Azorpete, Praye Honeho or now known as Choir master, Steven Fiawoo is known as Big J or Praye Tietia while Nana Kwame is known as Kente or Praye Tenten.

Praye’s direction in music is clear and united so they have also taken a social responsibility of helping clean Ghana with Zoom Lion Ghana.

Praye has the most viewed Ghanaian music video on the web currently. Their video Angelina has been viewed over 300,000 times on Ghana Music.com and over 200,000 times on YouTube.

The unforgettable hook ” Angelina kome to o, Kee ke shuperu ke salsa, Macarena ke mapouka, shigome shigome
Angelina kome to o, Kee ke shuperu ke salsa…” is destined to keep the trio going till they spring up another bolt from the blue.

I can’t marry Isaac – Cee

April 24, 2009

isaac__cee_300x188One of Ghana’s youngest gospel music stars, Cynthia Appiah Kubi aka Cee of TV3 Mentor fame, has hinted that although she is a woman who would one day marry, she cannot marry Isaac aka Showboy, who happens to be her close friend.

In an interview with BEATWAVES, Cee together with Isaac and Ampong noted that marriage is a gift from God and that she was waiting for God’s time. “I have in mind that one day I will marry, but all will depend on God to provide me with a good man.”

When it was suggested that since she is close to Isaac, he would be the best choice for her, Cee declared, “I cannot marry Isaac. It will not be possible because we are good friends, living and working together. We have worked together for two years now”.

Cee, who has been in the music industry for quite some time now, told BEATWAVES that she had wanted to become a journalist but could not pursue her dream career because of her educational background.

The talented artiste who appeared happy that she is gradually climbing to the top continued that she was working behind the scenes to become a beautician in addition to her gospel musical career.

Isaac Nana Asare, who was satisfied with the comments made by Cee, said the three of them – Great Ampong, Cee and himself – were working together to promote the work of God.

He disclosed that although they are young in the music industry, they have plans of establishing a non-governmental organization to assist the needy in society and as well support some educational institutions in the country.

On his part, Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong aka Great Ampong, said their aim as gospel musicians was to use music to preach the gospel to the world.

He noted that with his 14 years’ experience in the gospel music industry, he and his colleagues had taken it upon themselves to use the rest of their lives on earth to educate the people about the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong is the kingpin of the trio. He has been in music since 1996 and has come out with a number of hit-songs including ‘Jordan’, ‘Osofoo Kasa’ and ‘Hossana’ before later teaming up with Isaac and Cee.

He is a God-fearing young man who did song ministration at North Kaneshie SDA Church and at other big events.

He believes God has anointed him and is using him to write songs which he put together into an album and produced by BANDEX Music.

He says with the team he has at the moment, it should be possible to dominate the gospel music scene in Ghana in the near future.
